2025 Flower Season

Flowers, Flowers, Flowers....!

Our experiment with growing flowers has turned out to be a fun experience for everyone who visited and supported our local farm.  Thank you all!  We have over 3000 square feet to our small but pretty, well I am biased, little flower farm.   As we did last year, the flowers have been grown from seed in the field and early seed starting in our greenhouse.  Using the greenhouse gave us the opportunity to try and grow more flower varieties that may not be commonly found locally.  It continues to be a learning process, but that is half the fun.

Why flowers? Well, I love fresh flowers or just any pretty natural cutting to bring in the house and most of our friends share that love, so we thought, maybe more folks would enjoy locally grown fresh flowers.

Visit us at the farm this flower season on Thursday and Saturday mornings from 8:30am-12:30pm.  2025 Opening Day TBD

While shopping for flowers we will have some wonderful seasonal items for purchase in our gift shop:

  • Fresh summer and fall candles from Lil Sparrow Candle Company. This is the same company that makes the wonderful and very popular candles that we sell during Christmas.
  • Seasonal gifts, locally crafted items, and a focus on American-made products.

You can also get our beautiful flowers via our online store, at Jean's Neighborhood Market and Cloer Family Vineyards or by visiting us at the Apex Farmers Market.  The Market is on Saturdays from 8a-12n in downtown Apex.

Days we will be at the Market:

April 12 & 26

May 10 & 24

Good to know.....

Parking

All parking will be at the main lot near the Christmas shop (the red barn). There may be some construction materials in the parking lot so please park leaving plenty of space between your car and the materials. Also, when parking please make sure your car is not blocking other cars from entering or exiting.

What Should You Bring?

  • Clean jar, vase, bucket or other container to transport your beautiful flowers home.
  • We have water to fill your container.
  • We will also have plastic bags and moist towels to wrap your flowers in if you don’t have your own container.
  • Your own clippers or scissors, especially if you will be doing your flower arrangement at the farm. We will have a few pairs for everyone to use and will disinfect after each use.

Tables will be available if you would like to do your flower arrangement during your visit with us.  Children are welcome and encouraged to take part in the fun.  We ask parents to stay with their children at all times and do not allow them to wander in the fields or barns.  Most children 10 and up are able to follow the flower cutting process and have alot of fun gathering flowers on their own.

Please DO NOT Bring

  • Pets of any kind. If you have a service dog, please alert us ahead of time.
  • Children or adults with severe bee/wasp/ant sting reactions. Bees are really not interested in stinging people while they have flowers around but there is always a chance. Flower and Christmas Tree farms are quite literally buzzing with bees and other pollinators…and that is a good thing!

How Flower Selection Works

3 ways to purchase flowers:

  • U-PICK:  We offer the “as many flowers as you can fit in our pitcher or bucket” option as one flat rate. Each pitcher full of flowers is $25 and each bucket full is $75. This rate is for the flowers only, the pitchers and buckets are not for sale. One full pitcher can easily fill 2 or 3 – 32 oz mason jars, depending on how full you like your bouquet.
    • Exception to the flat rate: There are some flower stems that are large, i.e. sunflowers or special, i.e. hydrandeas, dahlias, that may be priced per stem and not included in the flat rate.
    • This year we will have similar pitchers to the ones we use for flower pickin for sale.
    • If you enjoy picking a bucket full, we will have buckets that you can purchase and use each time you return to the farm.  When you buy a Country Fresh Flower Farm refillable bucket for $10, you will receive $5 off the bucket full price each time you bring in your bucket.
  • WE-PICK:  Get a pitcher or bucket full of flowers but let us pick them for you.  Sometimes you may not have the time to U-pick or the weather is just a bit hot, we can help.  Flat rate for a we-pick pitcher is $35 and bucket is $90.  You can order these at our online store or send us a messenger message on days we are open to order (up to 30mins before closing), allow us at least 30mins for a pitcher and 1hr for a bucket to pick, and then you can pick up and pay for your flowers at the farm.
  • Pre-made flower bouquets lovingly made by our staff. These large, handtied bouquets can be purchased on our online store and picked up on at our farm.  During the ordering process you can pick a color preference (depending on the flowers available, we will try to provide your preference as close as we can) and day of pick-up.  Mason jars may be purchased separately if you are gifting the bouquet and want it ready for giving!  You can also find our pre-made bouquets at the Apex Farmers Market.  For the market, you can pre-order and pick up on our market days if that is easier than coming out to the farm.

If you opt for the U-pick method, you are welcome to arrange your flower bouquet(s) in the containers you brought while at the farm.
Do you love pickin' flowers?  Pick up a "Flower Power Card".  Once you purchase 4 pitchers, buckets or bouquets of flowers you can get a U-Pick pitcher of flowers (a $25 value) free.

Please arrive at least 30 mins before closing time to select your items, especially if you will be staying to arrange your bouquet(s).

FlowerS - What and when?

Flower Vase Life and Drying

FlowerS - What and when?

  • Our flower farm is small but mighty!  We grow over 25 varieties of flowers and herbs.  Most are summer annuals and periennials with hardy annuals in the mix.
  • Summer bloom time ranges from June till late October and includes popular varieties like zinnias, sunflowers, celosia, amaranth, argeratum, bee balm, basil, dill, sage and more.
  • Hardy annuals showcase snapdragons, lace flower, bells of ireland, sweetpeas, lisianthus, etc and bloom from April to June.

Preparing my flowers

Flower Vase Life and Drying

FlowerS - What and when?

  • Remove wrappings from your flowers.  If flowers have been out of water and look a bit flimsy, most often they will bounce back once fully hydrated.
  • Prepare a vase (or vases) by filling them with fresh, cool water.
  • Add flower food into the water.  Remember, you don't need to use the whole packet, you can use 1/3 to 1/2 of the packet depending on vase size so you can use throughout the life of your flowers.
  • Remove any leaves that will fall below the water level.
  • Snip flowers with and diagonal cut.   Cutting at an angle is important because the stems are like straws, and a diagonal cut allows them to drink more water and prevents them from sitting flush against the bottom of your vase and not being able to drink.
  • Always wash your hands after handling flowers as some flowers can cause skin irritation.

Flower Vase Life and Drying

Flower Vase Life and Drying

Flower Vase Life and Drying

  • Because our flowers are truly fresh cut from the farm and not being transported to many stops before getting to you, the freshness is definitely noticed.
  • Most of our farm flowers have a 7-10 day vase life.  Many of them can be dried and then last for months.
  • Keep your blooms away from direct sunlight and heat sources.
  • Change the water daily or every other day and add remaining flower food.  Cool, fresh water is just fine if you are out of food.
  • Give your stems a fresh cut when you change the water. You might notice the stems getting weaker at the bottom, so trim off any icky bits before putting them in fresh water.
  • Check your arrangement every day and remove wilted blooms.  The key is to keep the water and vase clean and fresh.

Can my pet eat the flowers?

Can my pet eat the flowers?

Flower Vase Life and Drying

The best answer is NO.  While many of our flowers and herbs are edible for humans, pets may not tolerate them.  Some of our flowers can be toxic to animals and humans so best to wash hands thoroughly after handling the flowers and keep them away from pets and children.
